The problem

Most pop-ups interrupt the wrong person at the wrong moment

The standard implementation fires on arrival, demands an email address before offering anything, and appears identically to a first-time visitor and a returning customer. It annoys the engaged and captures the indifferent, which is why pop-ups have the reputation they do.

  • Overlays firing immediately on page load
  • The same message to everyone regardless of history
  • Visitors leaving with no attempt to intervene
  • Abandoned baskets with no recovery prompt
  • Mobile overlays that cover the page and cannot be dismissed
What we build

What we build

Behavioural triggers

Firing on scroll depth, dwell time, repeat visits or basket activity, so the overlay reaches people who have shown genuine interest.

Exit intent detection

Catching the moment someone is about to leave, which is when an intervention costs nothing and might save the visit.

Audience-aware messaging

Different messages for new visitors, returning visitors and existing customers, because a discount offered to a loyal customer is money given away.

Basket recovery

Targeted prompts when someone abandons a basket, addressing the reason where it can be inferred.

On-brand formats

Slide-ins, banners and inline prompts designed as part of the site rather than dropped on top of it.

Mobile-appropriate behaviour

Formats that respect a small screen and search engine guidance on intrusive interstitials.

A/B testing

Trigger timing, offer and copy tested rather than guessed.

Consent-compliant capture

Data capture built to the consent rules of the markets you operate in.

How we deploy it

Two to three weeks, then continuous testing.

Book a CallBook a Call
  1. Week 1

    Plan the intervention

Where visitors drop out, what would plausibly stop them, and what you can offer that is genuinely worth an address.

  2. Week 2

    Design and build

On-brand formats built and tested across devices, with mobile treated as its own problem.

  3. Week 3

    Launch and monitor

Deployed with close monitoring of both capture rate and bounce, because a pop-up that captures well while raising exits is a net loss.

  4. Ongoing

    Test

Continuous testing of triggers, timing and offers against results.

Questions

Frequently asked

Badly implemented ones will, and most are. Firing on exit intent or genuine engagement rather than on arrival, offering something real, and being easy to dismiss removes most of the objection. We monitor bounce rate alongside capture to confirm.

Not if built correctly. Search engines penalise intrusive interstitials on mobile, so mobile formats are designed within those guidelines. Exit-intent overlays on desktop are not affected.

Yes. You get an interface to create and edit campaigns, adjust triggers and review performance without needing development work each time.

Something matching intent. A first-time reader might want a useful guide; someone abandoning a full basket needs a reason to complete. A single blanket discount is usually the least effective and most expensive option.
